| Demand for film community prompts On Demand Film Competition |

(by Elizabeth Ruiz) Whether a future Bergman, Cuaron (Alfonso or Carlos), Tarantino, or even quasi-Hype Williams, there's a place for up-and-coming filmmakers in the first annual El Paso On Demand Film Exhibition. The competition is the brainchild of media consultant and film professor Joseph Villescas, who wanted to create incentive for locals to create films through collaboration with Time Warner Cable.
The competition is intended to give exposure to the El Paso On Demand channel available for current subscribers who are under-utilizing the feature, as well as to local filmmakers who submit their work to be judged by On Demand subscribers. The work will be in the following categories by feature films, documentaries, short films (20 minutes or less), student film (created by anyone currently enrolled) and music videos. |

It's official! "BRACERO STORIES" will be broadcast on PBS stations this coming FALL, 2009. It has been licensed by Latino Public Broadcasting for their series "VOCES." Though not an official PBS broadcast it will be offered to Public TV stations nationally, so everyone will have to "see local listings" when the time comes. An air date will be announced but it may play on various dates on different PBS affiliates in different locations. |

GBIv5 is set for August 6, 2009 at The Plaza Classic Film Festival - Arts Festival Plaza. The submission deadline is Friday, July 31. Submissions must have a runtime of 10 minutes or less and all projects must have a local (ep/nm) connection (eg. directed by, written by, starring, etc...). |

Neal Barenblat and Carlos Corral decide to rent a Steadicam and climb a mountain. They rented a Varizoom Steadicam Navigator from Omega Braodcast in Austin, TX and drove out to Enchanted Rock. They mounted Neal's DVX100B onto the steadicam and climbed the 800 ft. mountain, all while documenting our experience. Worst Idea Ever? |
