I was just curious, which scenes or looks in other movies have inspired you and you have emulated or are planning on emulating or simple have given you ideas to incorporate into your owe work? I've drawn from such diverse films Like Halloween, Terminator, Apocalypse Now, Laurence of Arabia, She Wore a Yellow Ribbon (as well as other John Ford westerns), Wild at Heart, Cat People ('42 original version), Jaws, Aliens, Predator, Susperia, An American Werewolf in London and several other films for the look and concepts in Blood Moon Rising. I have of course but my owe stank on the ideas but I don't know if it would be as interesting a I find it without the inspiration from these other films. I have been aproaching Blood Moon differently than I have with other scripts in that I wanted Blood Moon to be extremely visual and not bogged down in dialog, so I've actually been story boarding rather than writing the script. It has freed my mind in this particular case. I wanted to shoot the majority of scenes MOS and loop / foley most of it in post. I also wanted to avoid any VFX if possible so as too keep as natural a look as possible. As for the framing, look and aspect ratio, I am going with 2:35 anamorphic on 5279 (or 5260 if I can afford it or find a killer deal on some) so I can play a bit with negative space to create a feeling of isolation and being surrounded by the unknown. have any of you been inspired by or used as an ohmage to something you've seen?

I just saw the Czechoslovakian classic "Daisies" and I'm still in teary-eyed, breath-taken awe. The whole movie is one continuous inspiring scene for me hahaha! I've found my heart again.
Oh yeah, almost forgot, the ending sequence of Death Proof. When the chicks beat the shit out of him with the pipe then punch him to death into the ground. Hahaha, oh it makes my soul glow

Jesus, remind me not to piss you off or at lease not piss you off at a construction site where a pipe might be handy.

JC, you have eclectic tastes, I must say. Have any of these pictures influenced your pictures?

Ahh believe it or not I still haven't seen Planet Terror! I really really want to because it looks amazing, and I've heard the same. I will make it a point to watch it this weekend. And yes I'm greatly influenced by all this, but like anybody listing all the movies and stuff that inspires me would take forever!

I guarantee you will LOVE it. I hate to say it especially 'cause I LOVE most of Tarantino's work but in MY opinion, it was by far the weaker of the 2 and wasn't all that well written when compared to some of his other stuff. I thought for example, Kill Bill 1&2 which ALSO had hot chicks kicking ass and taking names were far better written pieces. But that's just me. Rodriguez films for the most part have tremendous style, well except for maybe Shark Boy and Lava Girl but hey EVERYBODY f*cks up every once in a while.

scenes?? I like many many films, for different reasons depending on what film it is. When i was young I liked gangster movies and blockbusters but as i matured I grew to like films for different reasons. But as for scenes or sequences that inspired me to pursue filmmaking when I was younger, Goodfellas was one that blew me away. The long take in the copacabana restaurant was just amazing the first time I'd scene it and to this day I still ove that. ALso the end sequence when Henry is driving around doing errands being chased by a helicopter was always one of my favorite parts. Damn there's so many movies, I could go on forever...

Wow, this is a good topic. The tough thing is that there's so many elements to a scene: the cinematography, the screenplay, the editing, so forth. And while one element in a scene may inspire us, the others may not.
Peter Jackson's "Fellowship of the Ring" had an influence regarding a particular shot of Roads of Asgard. If you've seen RoA, you'll know which one I'm talking about. Its when they're hiking through the mountains. The music swells as the characters walk by, and the camera reveals the jagged peaks in the background. This of course is inspired by the scene after the Fellowship leaves Rivendell.
There's way too many other scenes to think of that have probably influenced me. But that one comes to the top of my head just because I was very consciously doing a tribute to that scene.
